Help
rættaHi! Could you please translate this into Faroese? It is to give information in Ido Wikipedia.
Thanks for your help. Chabi1
Same-sex marriage / Kynsleyst hjúnarlag
rættaHi Eileen! The Faroese Wikipedia is one of the very few that lacks an article about same-sex marriages, can you please create an article on that in Faroese? Bazzy11 29. apríl 2013
- Hi Bazzy11 - It's done now! Kynsleyst hjúnalag EileenSanda (talk) 29. apr 2013 kl. 21:48 (UTC)
- Thank you very much, Eileen!! If you have the time, an article about the White House in Washington would've been awesome :). Your work is very much appreciated! Bazzy11 5. mai 2013
Cal Lutheran
Nei, tað er alt í lagi, at tú tekur okkurt vekk úr hasari greinini um kynsleyst hjúnalag, eg skrivaði tað tí at onkur bað meg um tað, eri ikki so øgiliga nógv inni í tí, so rætta endiliga :) Vh.
- Hey Djupwijk. Eg hugdi at hvussu onnur mál stava t.d. Montréal, á norskum var tað við é á bokmål og við e á nýnorskum, og so var tað hipp sum happ, hvat ið tey ymisku málini brúktu. Summi mál brúktu Kebek, sum møguliga eigur at vera føroyski stavimátin, møguliga við tveimum kk í endanum. Men so er tað líka tað at ke úttalast che ella tje á føroyskum... so eg lat tað bara vera við tí upprunaliga kanadiska stavimátanum, sum hasin nýggi persónurin í gjár flutti innihaldið til. Eg skal rætta tað aftur, so síðusøgan í tað minsta fylgir við framyvir.
Ja, eg haldi faktisk eisini, at tað rættasta nokk hevði verið at stava tað uttan apostrof (´)á føroyskum, men eg veit ikki, um eg tími at flyta síðuna aftur, eg ynskti fyrst og fremst at varðveita søguna hjá hasum báðum síðunum. Uppá ein máta burdu vit føroyingar ikki havt so nógv ímóti at stava fremmand staðarnøvn uppá tann mátan sum t.d. eitt býarnavn verður stava í tí landinum, t.d. verður okkara ð ofta varðveitt í føroyskum staðarnøvnum, t.d. í Suðuroy á Wikipedia greinum á ymiskum málum. Eg havi tó onki ímóti, um onkur finnur uppá at flyta Québec aftur til Quebec, bara tað verður gjørt soleiðis at søgan hjá síðuni fylgir við :) Vinarliga EileenSanda (talk) 18. mai 2013 kl. 23:00 (UTC)

John Cale
rættaHi, I noticed that you have contributed to article about Pussy Riot. Thank you for them. Should I request to you, you would want to create at least a short article for John Cale (en • de • fr) (founding member of The Velvet Underground)? Translation request
rættaDear Eileen, can you please translate these political-orientated articles from Danish into Faroese: Venstrefløjen and Højrefløjen? Bazzy11 (talk) 17. jun 2013 kl. 19:53 (UTC)
- Ok, I will translate a part of the article, but not right now. The Faroese word for "Venstreorienteret" is "Vinstrahallur" or "Vinstrasinnaður" (in maskulinum, that is, if the next word is a maskulin word, like "flokkur"/party or politikkur/politics). The Faroese word for "Højreorienteret" is "Høgrahallur" or "Høgrasinnaður" (the -ur ending is only used if there comes a maskulin word after and in nominativ). EileenSanda (talk) 17. jun 2013 kl. 22:50 (UTC)

- Starting on August 28, all users with an account will be using HTTPS to access Wikimedia sites. HTTPS brings better security and improves your privacy. Some countries (like China) will not use HTTPS. If HTTPS causes problems for you, tell us on meta. [100]
- Starting on August 29, you will get the code editor interface to edit JavaScript and CSS pages on all wikis. [101]
- The plan to use Solr for search in MediaWiki was changed; instead, Elasticsearch is now planned. [102]
- Special:Listfiles can now display old versions of files a user has uploaded. A new link was also added (Special:AllMyFiles) that gives a list of all files the current user has ever uploaded (that haven't been deleted).
- There is now an Android application to contribute to translatewiki.net from mobile devices. [103]
- VisualEditor now has a new toolbar with drop-down menus for advanced tools. [104]
- Many bugs were fixed, some related to copy-and-paste. [105]
- You can now move references, list of references, templates and other elements with the mouse ("drag-and-drop"). [106]
- You are invited to comment on designs for the interface to add references in VisualEditor.
- Developers are looking for ideas of small technical projects that new developers could work on. Please add your ideas. [107]
- Developers are looking for wikis who would accept to try using secure links (HTTPS) for all users. [108]
- You can join an IRC discussion about "Beta features", a tool to try new features, on October 3. [109]
- You can join an IRC discussion about Flow, the new wiki discussion tool, on October 17.
- You can now choose which language to show for SVG files that contain several languages, using the "lang" option, like
[[File:Gerrit_patchset_25838_test.svg|lang=de]]
for the German layer of File:Gerrit patchset 25838 test.svg. - Developers are looking for wiki communities to try the new search system. [110]
- You can now create and edit references inside media captions. [111]
- You now need to press the "delete" key twice to delete a template, reference or image; the first time, they only become selected, to avoid accidental deletion of infoboxes and similar content. [112]
- When you resize images, you will now still see them, and their size will also be seen in the center. [113] [114]
- The new notifications system ("Echo") will be added to almost all wikis that don't already have it on October 22. It will notify you of changes and events that affect you. [115]
- MediaWiki 1.22wmf22 was added to test wikis on October 17. It will arrive to non-Wikipedia wikis on October 21 and all Wikipedia wikis on October 24 (calendar).
- The interface to reset your password will soon be changed. [116]
- The "Toolbox" section in the site sidebar is now called "Tools" in English. You can do the same in your language by editing the interface text on translatewiki.net. Someone else may have already done it. [117]
- On wikis with VisualEditor, you can now use it on pages in the Mynd, Hjálp and Bólkur spaces. [118]
- On October 22 (UTC), an error in the site settings caused
*.wikimedia.org
sites (like Meta-Wiki and Commons) to redirect towikimediafoundation.org
for a few hours. [119] - MediaWiki 1.23wmf1 was added to test wikis on October 24. It will arrive to non-Wikipedia wikis on October 28 and all Wikipedia wikis on October 31 (calendar).
- In the next days, servers in San Francisco will start providing (cached) content to users located in Oceania. If you are in that area and notice problems, please tell us. [120]
- You will soon be able to test new features easily using the "Beta Features" view. VisualEditor will be in the list on sites where it works and isn't automatically enabled. Another example is a set of changes in the article text style.
- The style and colors for warning boxes, error messages, and success messages in all skins of MediaWiki has been changed. [121]
- You will soon be able to switch from editing in VisualEditor to editing wikitext directly without having to save the page. You can't yet switch from wikitext to VisualEditor but developers hope to make it possible in the future. [122]
- There was a problem on October 31 during the activation of MediaWiki 1.22wmf2 on test wikis. mediawiki.org was also broken, and if you had problems logging in, it was probably because of this as well.
- Because of the problem with MediaWiki 1.22wmf2, the calendar has changed. It will be added to mediawiki.org and non-Wikipedia sites on November 4, and all Wikipedia sites on November 7.
- Due to a recent change, gadgets and user scripts that use jQuery UI should explicitly load the appropriate modules, as they may not be loaded by default. [123]
- Developers have started to remove long-deprecated methods. You should check the JavaScript console (in
debug=true
mode) and look for deprecation warnings and their stack trace. [124] - You can now use the "Autonym" font of the Universal Language Selector (ULS) to display the name of languages (for example in navigation templates) in their correct script. To do this, add the CSS class
"autonym"
to the elements that include language names. Note that this font only works for the name of languages, not for any other text. [125] - There was a problem with Parsoid (the program used by VisualEditor to convert wikitext to annotated HTML) on November 4, between 19:40 and 20:40 (UTC). Encoding issues caused non-ASCII characters (including those with diacritics, like "é") to be broken when converted to wikitext and saved to the page. [126]
- The Beta Features tool is now available on Commons and Meta-Wiki. With it, you can test new features before they're added for everyone. The plan is to add this tool to all wikis on November 21. [127]
- MediaWiki 1.23wmf3 was added to test wikis on November 7. It will arrive to non-Wikipedia wikis on November 12 and all Wikipedia wikis on November 14 (calendar). [128]

{{REVISIONID}}
,{{REVISIONUSER}}
and{{REVISIONTIMESTAMP}}
and similar functions, by writing for example{{REVISIONID:Apple}}
. [131] - In the future, when you hide a CentralNotice banner on a wiki, it will also be hidden on other Wikimedia sites. [132]
- Dear JEissfeldt, I will have a look and translate as much as I can of the interface for the VisualEditor into Faroese, I have been searching for it on translatewiki but couldn't find it. I am looking forward for having the VisualEditor here on the Faroese Wikipedia, hopefully it will encourage more editors to be active here. Best regards EileenSanda (talk) 15. nov 2013 kl. 21:57 (UTC)
- Thank you, EileenSanda, for both your quick reply and help. To the best of my knowledge, all relevant interface messages should be here. I share your hope both for Faroese and more broadly for smaller communities in general, too. From the Spanish Wikipedia, the biggest community currently using VisualEditor as default, we know that it has the potential to improve participation generally. To that extend, the most important translation beyond the interface itself is perhaps the userguide. Best regards and a happy weekend from Middle Europe :), --JEissfeldt (WMF) (talk) 15. nov 2013 kl. 22:39 (UTC)
- Hello again :) I found the interface for the VisualEditor on Translatewiki, and found out that I (or someone else) had already translated more than half of it, but I completed the translation, so now it is 100%. I have already translated the user guide, but I can see now, that a part of is outdated, I will update it. Sounds good that the VisualEditor is a success on the Spanish Wikipedia, you too have a happy weekend :) EileenSanda (talk) 15. nov 2013 kl. 22:48 (UTC)

- If your wiki is testing the new search tool ("CirrusSearch"), you can now test it by adding "New search" in your Beta features preferences. [147]
- The toolbar is now simpler; all text styles (bold, italics, underline, subscript, etc.) are in the same menu, and the "More" menu is called "Insert". [148]

- I have just written Vinstrahallur politikkur (Venstreorienteret politik). I will write the other two sometime later. Happy Holidays to you too :) EileenSanda (talk) 23. des 2013 kl. 11:46 (UTC)
- The latest version of MediaWiki (1.23wmf8) was added to test wikis and MediaWiki.org on December 19. It will be enabled on non-Wikipedia wikis on December 31 and on all Wikipedia wikis on January 2, 2014 (calendar).

Dear EileenSanda, I would be grateful, if you could take a look at the VisualEditor announcement and especially into the interface translations. I feel it would be very important to have the translations properly heandled by someone who actually speaks the language and is engaged in improving this project. Thank you and best regards, --JEissfeldt (WMF) (talk) 15. nov 2013 kl. 19:17 (UTC)
